Pizzo Calabro

Today it was Pizzo, a quaint Italian city by the sea.

We visited the castle and prison where Joachim Murat,  (Napoleon brother-in-law) was kept prisoner before being executed by the Bourbons.

We had the famous Pizzo’s tartufo, yes it did live to its reputation: very delicious, simply the best.

Then we visited the Madonna di Piedigrotta chapel, by the beach.  It dates from the XVII century.  It was dedicated by some shipwrecked sailors from the Napoli’s area to thank the Virgin Mary for saving them. The work was continued by local artists and it still goes on.  It is a Grotta carved from the local stone (tufo) and… see the pictures.
